After a long day of revision and practice questions, I’m thinking a few episodes of The Wire and then bed.

Here’s a friendly reminder:

caffeinatedfeminist:

-You cannot be sexist toward men. Sexism is based on a system of oppression. You CAN be discriminatory, rude, inconsiderate, and/or prejudiced against men but you CANNOT be sexist toward them.

-You cannot be racist towards white people. Racism is based on a system of oppression. You CAN be discriminatory, rude, inconsiderate, and/or prejudiced against white people but you CANNOT be racist toward them.

This is not difficult.

srs tho, to most people “racist” = based upon race and “sexist” = based upon sex. That’s actually what those words mean. They’re actually kinda neutral terms, which have only (rightly) inherited the negative vibes from the civil rights movements. A joke based upon race is a racist joke. A political position based upon sex is a sexist position. Doesn’t matter who does it, and to who.

These are the definitions 99% of people use, they’re the original definitions, and they’re the etymological definitions. There’s no use getting mad when most people don’t use them the way some sociology writers they haven’t read want them to use them. At least accept that this word has picked up a few definitions, and that it’s not the end of the world when you and someone else are using different ones.

P.S. Am I saying that all racism/sexism is created equal? No! That would be silly.

Anonymous asked: You okay?

Ummm…yes, faceless anonymous stranger, I’m alright. Exams are going well, I’m nice and healthy, it’s way too hot for me but I bought a big ol’ town fan…yeah. I can’t complain.
